We went for a modest launch. We avoided the pomposities witnessed by other Political Parties in five-star hotels. Before the media, which surprisingly was mean but adequate for effective campaign, I read the following speech. Since the introduction of the nature of the ideology has been included in details in the earlier part of this book, it has, therefore, been edited out of the following speech:
The launch was called, CIVIL REVOLUTION LAUNCH
Inaugural Introduction and Presidential Announcement:
About 44 years since the independence, the country, which has all the potential of being an economic power, is still rated as a poor nation. Some of the eastern countries, which were at economic par with Kenya during the independence, have developed so much that today they have joined the donor countries from which Kenya has to go for economic begging. Why? Is it because Kenyans have a low quality of brains?
The mushrooming slums in urban centers, led by the Kibera slum that is rated as the largest slum in Africa, are symbolic of the collective national slums Kenya has acquired since independence. There is a terrible moral decay slums, corruption slums, unemployment and poverty slums, health slums, and insecurity slums. In spite of Kenya having some of the best brains in the world, Kenya has become a nation plagued by a culture of slums of all kinds. Who has been responsible for that decay?
CDK’s taking is that wrong imported governing structures, which are unrelated to African values, have been the devil playing the tricks on the nation. They are structures based on personality cults, and without any ideology. The Jomo Kenyatta personality cult; Daniel arap Moi personality cult; Mwai Kibaki personality cult. Once these people get out of power, they leave absolutely no ideology behind them. They go and die with their governing magic, leaving the nation to start from zero at the expense of African governing values. Kenya has come off age to rely no more on personality cults. Kenya should reclaim its best values based on African ideology. This is the only move that will rid the nation of personality cults and the slums.
Africa cannot free itself from foreign domination and neo-colonialism while she even begs for food. Food is one of the most pressing and most basic human needs. According to Abraham Maslow, the basic human needs are Food, Air, Water, Rest, Clothing, Shelter, Activity and Sex. Food, therefore, is one of the most basic and most important human needs.
A stable nation must have enough food for the people to eat comfortably until the next harvest and maintain some strategic reserves for trade. A nation that does not satisfy its basic bodily needs for food must be regarded as a primitive nation. Individuals in that primitive nation, and by extension the nation itself, cannot progress.
44 years since independence, the Kenyan nation has not succeeded in producing enough food for its people. For that reason, it qualifies to be called a primitive nation that, frequently, goes out to beg for food from more civilized nations. It is pointless and futile to seek higher needs when even the food need has not been fully satisfied.
Kenya’s agriculture, livestock, poultry and fisheries – the primary foundation for civilization – have not been fully exploited. For example, its is both a criminal and an evil thing for the nation to watch the fortune of the incredible volume of water that pours over the land run back to the ocean without being harvested and used for agriculture, yet citizens are left crying for food relief. 44 years after independence, if there is even one single person starving in the in Kenya, then we have no business in talking about Sessional Papers, strategies, industrialization and Millenniums development in goals, increasing salaries and allowances of MPs.
Complete food sufficiency can only be achieved through revolutionary mobilization of resources. Since Kenya has the best manpower needed for any form of mobilization, obviously something somewhere has been gravely wrong in the governing structural power so that for 44 years after independence, the nation is still plagued by poverty. That manpower has been misused, underused, misdirected, or partially employed.
Lack of creativity in the nation has imprisoned the nation into poverty and insecurity. We employ machines where human labour could do the job. We do not promote and sell our arts to the international market. Kenyan athletics have shown that Kenyans can conquer the world. Besides athletic sports, there are a host of other activities with which we could conquer the world. The land size of Japan is about one third that of Kenya, yet Japan is the second greatest economy in the world, competing with the United States of America. What is the secret of their success? They follow an ideology, their cultural values and have absolute faith in themselves in the utility of human resources. They exercise accountability and creativity. They are tuned to the demands of the modern world. Only the sky is the limit with regard to how far the revolution can take Kenyan.
By virtue of the ideology CDK introduces to the nation the first position as the only Political Party in the history of Kenya to have an ideology. The ideology is called GENDER-AND-AGE-DEMOCRACY based on traditional African governing and social order. All the other Political Parties in Kenya starting from KANU to the ODM should be called hit-and-run political parties because they have no ideology.
Today, CDK launches a Civil Revolution. Nothing short of Revolution will heal this nation from its political slums. The hit-and-run political parties have been the transport for engaging their leaders in building poverty instead of creating and building prosperity.
This Civil Revolution will require neither guns, nor arrows, and nor pangas in order to achieve its goal. It will be a Revolution spearheaded by the most marginalized groups in the nation. Those marginalized groups are three. YOUTH, WOMEN and MEDIA, together with the collective poor citizens. They will only use the VOTE-GUN for, only the VOTE-GUN can, so peacefully and effectively, throw out the present poverty empire builders and replace them with committed builders of prosperity for the nation.
CDK’s Civil Revolution will put Kenya on spot to act as a continental example that that will prove to the world that, indeed, the African can remove himself from the present economic dungeon and become an economic giant. The Revolution will destroy the present culture of survival for the fittest, thuggery and political exploitation of the common man.
The present imported Capitalist Structure has no power-sharing place for the Youth from Primary School to University, and has little power-sharing place for women. That explains why the present Parliament is male dominated. The present Parliament is merely a club for the male group to take care of its own interest and exploitation of the powerless who enjoyed a powerful voice in traditional governance. Yet the same Parliament purports to have interest in representing absent groups. How can the present Kenyan Parliament discuss matters such as marriage, human rights, job opportunities sex, rape and so on? This structure has created the political monster that is destroying the socio.-economic fabric of Kenya.
In African traditional leadership, a leader is someone who is absolutely respected and trusted. How can a thief be called Honourable or, Mheshimiwa in Kiswahili? Honourable for what? This nation is crying for top leadership that is absolutely clean. Only top clean leadership can be capable of cleaning the corruption mess and reform the morally decaying community and create prosperity. The government is the mother and father of the nation. What happens to the integrity of the children when parents exercise dishonesty, lying, stealing and misbehaving?
There is little difference, if any, between Kenyatta Regime, Moi Regime, and Kibaki Regime. When things hot up, since Kenyatta times up to the present time, the ruling regime tries to silence the mass by misusing public funds. They form gravely costly commissions, which come up with recommendations that the regime will never honour – JM Commission, Goldenberg Commission, Robert Ouko Commission, Anglo Leasing Commission, Ndung’u Commission, Kiruki or Mamiluki Commission – just to name a few of them. How many billions of shillings have been spent on such toothless commissions since 1963? The regimes survive on making giant and empty promises. The same big promises that Kenyatta used to promise Kenyans decades ago, are the same that the present regime is promising.
There is no guarantee that the security and unemployment in this nation will be better tomorrow; if anything, they will only be worse with the increase of the population and diminishing resources. Only CDK’s Civil Revolution will save the nation.
Position of the Media: In simple terms, without radio, television and the newspaper information, the nation is left voiceless in the dark. A nation with a weak media is a weak nation. A nation with a powerful media is a powerful nation. Writers are prophets and intellectual developers of the nation. Writers and journalists warn the nation of coming dangers and expose the evil things in governing systems. I am a writer. I represent writers and their fate. Therefore, CDK is and should be the Party for writers both within and without this nation. It should be a tool for addressing their rights.
In Africa, unfortunately, Kenya is no exception, both writers and journalists are perceived as liabilities rather than assets. Governments have done their best to destroy writers through frustrations, imprisonment, and even killing them because writers and journalists are the most powerful voices in exposing evils in the government. Of course, no evildoer likes to be exposed.
Any government that has nothing to hide gives maximum freedom to its writers and journalists. This is the government that the CDK dreams of putting in place. It should be a government that liberates intellectual development fully, and a government that creates a safe haven for creative persons.
I appeal to all general well wishers, all writers and journalists committed to the course of saving the country to support this Civil Revolution by employing their intellectual, moral, spiritual and power and financial support from those blessed with it.
My Special Announcement It is with the spirit of this Civil Revolution that I, the Chairman of the revolutionary CDK, hereby announce my presidency for the next General Election whereby I shall chair and champion a Civil Social Revolution. It is a Civil Revolution because Civil Revolution is a devil to any corrupt leadership. It is Civil Revolution because it will be an about-turn from the culture of dependency on foreign aids. It is a Cultural Revolution with which we shall bring into force a culture of honesty. The salvation of this nation can only be achieved through the application of a culture of self-sufficiency.
I am African, bred by African values and I want to think African and become an African Chairman of a revolutionary move to restore African values. Only African values can build African civilization, not governing structures based on foreign values. Everything has an end. Surely, there should be an end to this poverty, shame, insecurity, unemployment, corruption, tribalism, inertia, loss of hope and a feeling that God does not listen to our prayers any more.
Financial cost Ay political campaign, worst of all Presidential Campaign, is a frighteningly expensive undertaking. In politics, they say, you cannot get anywhere without money. You know what? The easiest way to win the ticket to become the President is to steal big, extra-big money from somewhere. Most of you know from where. The most difficult way to become the President is to use the honest way of getting the campaign money. However, the easiest and cheapest way to get that ticket is to launch a Civil Revolution, which will persuade citizens to use their voting power and their meager resources to elect you. We, the officials of CDK, have no other choice but to go for the Civil Revolution.
For we, the officials of CDK have been outside the Government payroll. We have never have the privilege of looting either the Government or any other body. We have never been involved in any of the public scandals, Such as the Golden Berg, Anglo Leasing, crooked land deals and others where we could have amassed money for this campaign. We do not have private or foreign accounts, which we could use to buy air tickets and carry begging baskets to Europe, America, or Asia looking for campaign money. In any case, we have never had any business dealings with them. They do not know us because we are not high profile people to beg on behalf of the government. We are ordinary people, but ordinary people with revolutionary ideas. For the campaign, therefore, we will beg from our local and ordinary people of good will. We believe we are rich and. We shall succeed in this revolution because Kenyans are rich both in ideas, commitment and money. When you see us out there with a begging political basket for this revolution, pleased don’t laugh at us. Instead, laugh at the misery of Kenyans by putting something in our basket to help us complete the revolution.
This is a poor man’s Revolution for the poor, which will benefit our future generations too. The ruling members of the past and present corruptible and oppressive regimes have amassed colossal fortunes through looting public funds. This is the fortune they perpetually reemploy to corrupt their way back to power. Yes, they have the power of money, but we, the poor and marginalized, have a superior power of the vote. We shall use the VOTE-GUN to remove them from power and free ourselves from the bondage of being perpetually exploited.
